A DAO has come together to support the civilian population of Ukraine, under the guidance of Pussy Riot, Trippy Labs, and PleasrDAO.

Pussy Riot shows solidarity with Ukraine

On their band’s official Twitter account, Pussy Riot co-founder Nadya Tolokonnikova announced that Ukraine DAO seeks to raise money in order to purchase an NFT of the Ukrainian flag. She explains:

We’re minting the Ukrainian flag because it’s not about any specific artists or aesthetics—it’s about something much bigger than all of us, it’s a pure gesture of solidarity.

The proceeds of the NFT sale will be donated to civilian organizations in Ukraine. So far, it is unknown which organizations will benefit, but Tolokonnikova named Come Back Alive and Proliska as “good organizations to donate”.

Russian civilians protest against Putin

Since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion into Ukrainian territory in yesterday’s early morning hours, thousands have taken to the streets in order to protest against the war against Ukraine, despite heavy efforts by the Russian police to quell the protests.

Sky News reported more than 1,700 arrests across 54 Russian cities. In Moscow alone, at least 957 people have been detained. A petition launched by human rights advocate Lev Ponomavyov has received more than 330,000 signatures within only a few hours.

Via Twitter, Pussy Riot condemned the police brutality against the protestors, as well as Putin’s aggression against Ukraine. Throughout the last decade, several members of the feminist punk rock band were subject to imprisonment and governmental repression themselves.

For Ukraine DAO, they are joined by NFT OG Trippy Labs, who is also a major contributor to the digital art collective PleasrDAO. Earlier this year, Pleasr launched UlbrichtDAO in support of the legal defense of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht
