Blockchain technology has created a financial revolution which started with Bitcoin, but Blockchain’s potential has not only been implemented in the financial industry, now it has spread in data management, smart contracts, security and health industry.
The Blockchain technology has the capacity to achieve an authentic revolution in the way that information and patient data is being managed. Nowadays, the handling of medical information is a problem due to many reasons:
- The methods to obtain medical records are slow and can take up to 30 days to retrieve from some medical providers.
- New treating physicians have it difficult to have access to the patient’s medical records, for example, when the patient moves out of the country.
- Medical records, in many cases, can not be accessed in a timely manner, for example: during an emergency.
- Patients can have medical records in several physical locations, without access to a digital network. Nowadays, the data is controlled and centralized in hospitals and other institutions and in many cases, the data is scattered among several locations.
With all the current problems, Medicalchain has taken the initiative to solve these problems by adding the blockchain technology on its platform as a value proposal.
Medicalchain: The platform with blockchain technology for medical record of Patient information.
The Medicalchain platform aims to use Blockchain to improve the storage of accurate, timely and up-to-date patient health records, a unique and indestructible version that with current systems cannot be achieved. Different institutions such as doctors, hospitals, laboratories, research and health insurers may request permission to access the patient’s registry in order to provide their services and record the transactions in the patient’s ledger.

Medicalchain was invited to participate at the FT Digital Health Summit NYC in October 2017. Dr. Abdullah Albeyatti gave a speech to a distinguished group of healthcare professionals. Held annually, the Digital Health Summit brings patients, providers, payers, innovators, regulators and investors together to discuss new technologies and innovation in healthcare.
“What we want to do in our patients to be the sensor of their own health record management. We believe that patients should be holding their own health records so they don’t have to rely on the different institutions and different hospitals they might go visit”
Dr. Abdullah Albeyatti.
CEO and Co-Founder of Medicalchain.
Medicalchain uses Hyperledger Fabric that is a blockchain framework implementation and one of the Hyperledger projects hosted by The Linux Foundation. Hyperledger Fabric was initially contributed by Digital Asset and IBM, as a result of the first hackathon.
