The world is changing. The value of money is changing. John McAfee is also changing. You may know him because of the anti-virus software, McAfee, but over the last few months, he’s starting some interesting new ventures.

Currency Independence

Leading the international conversation on unfair rules within the current economic system, he took the opportunity to raise awareness of the potential of financial freedom by publishing the “Declaration of Currency Independence”. The blockchain influencer described the document as “the founding document of the Crypto movement” which aims to “liberate your money” and “free your mind.”

He explains that “prior to the proliferation of crypto assets, the option of the State abdicating control over the supply of currency was never a viable possibility.” However, according to McAfee that state control “is fundamentally manipulated.”

“Internet changed how humans viewed the transfer of information” and cryptocurrencies are changing the way how the transfer of value works. That’s why McAfee believes that cryptocurrency will disrupt the financial system all over the world. We are constantly adapting to the new trends, demands, needs, etc.

The “Redemption” Unit

Right after the “Declaration of Currency Independence”, McAfee announced on his official Twitter profile a new cryptocurrency which was originally labeled a hoax. The rumor was denied and McAfee explained his intentions – to offer McAfee Redemption Unit (MRU), which will be launched on June 25th.

According to Newsweek, each note will have a unique serial number that is tied to a cryptocurrency called the Redemption Unit. “There are a total of 6,050,000 redemption units, cost at $9.95 each.” McAfee said. The currency is intended to reserve personal time with John McAfee. According to him, users can redeem the currency by appearing at an address in Mexico between 1-3 PM so then they will receive a separate date, time, and location to meet.

Seriously? Cryptocurrency on paper? That sounds more like madness but it’s true.

The crypto community doesn’t think that tying a physical bank note to a cryptocurrency, initially internet-based and decentralized, is a great idea to be done. The currency received a lot of critics on Twitter such as “One reason I buy cryptos is so I don’t have to carry physical money,” and questions like “What’s the point of printing other money when the goal is to get rid of the existing one?”

Still, McAfee has very often supported his fans and followers. No matter what people say and think, he’s determined to reach his goal. He even tweeted about ECoinmerce which is one of the first supporters of MRU currency for all the products on their decentralized marketplace.

“We support MRU because we believe this is the right thing to do. We believe the value of MRU can be stable and it can be a huge benefit for the business to have a stable user-friendly cryptocurrency payment method,” said ECoinmerce COO Rex Chen. “In a long-term, it will be a better preserve of value than fiat currencies.”

But wait, that’s not the biggest announcement yet.

2020 Presidential Bid

“In spite of past refusals, I have decided to again run for POTUS in 2020,” McAfee tweeted and added: “If asked again by the Libertarian party, I will run with them. If not, I will create my own party. I believe this will best serve the crypto [currency] community by providing the ultimate campaign platform for us.”

In 2015 McAfee told CNNMoney that he had created a new political movement – The Cyber Party. Three years later he has 1,233 retweets and 5,870 likes on Twitter. Let’s say his digital PR and marketing efforts are reaching impressive results with people reacting on his announcement like that: “The Crypto Party! Let’s give independents a voice! And even if you didn’t win, you simply running for prez would bring HUGE publicity to the crypto world. 100% on board with this, I’ll definitely vote for you” and others tweeting “Please don’t. You’ll embarrass us all lol.”

However, McAfee doesn’t seem too optimistic for his current presidential run. Surprisingly, he even has realistic expectations for it – “Don’t think that I have a chance of winning. I do not. But what truly changes America is not the president, but the process of creating one.”
