Scorum – A New Sports Platform That Could Soon Be Top Of The League
Ever wondered what happened to former Arsenal and Barcelona winger Alexander Hleb? Neither have I. Well, you might be interested to know that he is now an adviser to Scorum, an ambitious new sports social media platform that promises to revolutionise the world of sports based web content, fantasy sports games and online betting.
Like Hleb, Scorum has made a strong start to its career, boasting an impressive presence on social media and some potentially lucrative ideas. Scorum’s founders and investors will doubtlessly hope to avoid the fate of its illustrious adviser, who spent large periods of his career warming the bench at Barcelona before disappearing back to Belarus.
We’ve seen other sports based ICOs over the past twelve months, but these have predominantly hoped to support sports-teams and individual athletes. Scorum plans to use Blockchain technology to lure sports fans to its platforms by tempting them with cryptos-SCR-which they can receive as a reward for providing or rating content on the blogging platform. The Statistic Centre and Fantasy Sports sites are viewable in beta form, and it is clear that a lot of work has been put into this project already.
Currency – SCR
Scorum doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel with its currency, SCR. It will use trusted Graphene Framework with DpOS consensus.
The currency will be ultimately used, it is hoped, for fantasy sports and commission free betting, and this is where investors will hope that Scorum can reap dividends. Scorum’s white paper quotes an FSAT report that states that one in five people in the US and Canada actively took part in fantasy sports in 2017. The potential for a global platform, crossing over all sports and linking players together using blockchain is exciting indeed. Scorum users will be able to bet against each other using SCR and also be able to place real time, commission-free bets.
Billions of dollars are pumped into sports globally by the hard-pressed sports fan. Blockchain offers the opportunity to redress the one-sided economic relationship between the industry and the punters who shell out to follow their teams.
But gambling is a legislative nightmare, and I wonder if Scorum will go the full nine yards into the gambling arena if the fantasy sports wing of the operation succeeds as it should.

The Team
Football teams have eleven players, rugby teams have fifteen. Scorum has 23, which will please those who like to see strength and depth and dismay those who believe that a team is only as good as its weakest player. A strong emphasis on marketing and a reputable blockchain architect in Alex Shkor will encourage most investors.
Social Media Presence
Scorum has 5978 followers on Twitter and over 61,000 Facebook likes, which is impressive for a company that has only been around since the middle of 2017. As the ICO commences this is likely to increase over the coming weeks and months. 1800 have joined Scorum on Telegram.
Conclusion:
Scorum has potential and nobody will doubt that there is a lot of money to be made in the world of sports. However, I have some reservations in what is an otherwise impressive ICO:
Firstly, there is the name. How many people who first saw it read “scrotum”? Or was that just me?
Secondly, 17 million seems like a lot of money to require initially and valuing the SCR at a dollar each is not very tempting for investors. 50% deduction for the pre-sale was a good deal but only limited amounts of SCR will be discounted during the ICO.
For now Scorum’s balls are in your court. It’s easy to see why investors are showing an interest in this impressive ICO. But those who are expecting a global sports betting outfit on the blockchain may find themselves ultimately caught offside. Where Scorum can dominate is in the world of fantasy sports, which seems tailor made to thrive on the blockchain.
